Fun Hollywood satire from George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart stars Jack Oakie, Aline MacMahon, and Russell Hopton as struggling vaudevillians who head west at the dawn of talkies to teach elocution to the stars. Also starring Sidney Fox and Gregory Ratoff. Quality is a bit iffy on this one.

Too Much Harmony (1933) DVD available
Fun backstage musical stars Bing Crosby as a stage crooner who brings a rural vaudeville act (Jack Oakie and Skeets Gallagher) to NYC, only to fall in love with the girl singer in the act (Judith Allen). Also starring Lilyan Tashman. Decent quality aside from a hiss in the soundtrack.

Sitting Pretty (1933) DVD available
Good natured Depression era musical comedy stars Jack Oakie and Jack Haley as two struggling songwriters who team with aspiring starlet Ginger Rogers to make good in Hollywood. Also starring Thelma Todd as a vamp who leads Oakie astray. Decent quality, though there seem to be a couple of edits (not sure what however).

Sweetie (1929) DVD available
Fun college comedy stars Nancy Carroll as a chorus girl who inherits a school only to use her new power to torment her football player boyfriend (Stanley Smith). Also starring Jack Oakie, Helen Kane (Boop Oop a Doop), and Stuart Erwin. Very good quality.

College Rhythm (1934) DVD available
Wild musical comedy stars Jack Oakie as "Love and Kisses" Finnegan, a cocky former football star who finds life after college isn't so easy working at a department store. Also starring Joe Penner, Lyda Roberti, Helen Mack, and Mary Brian. Very good quality.

Super Sleuth (1937) DVD available
Jack Oakie stars in this hilarious comedy as a movie detective who tries to solve a real life series of murders. Also starring Ann Sothern, Edgar Kennedy, and Eduardo Ciannelli. Great fun, Kennedy has a fun role as a harried cop. Good quality.

Paramount On Parade (1930) DVD available
Considered the best early talkie studio revue, the entire Paramount roster is featured. Jack Oakie, Leon Errol, and Skeets Gallagher host and the stars include Maurice Chevalier (3 segments), and a hilarious mystery with Dr. Fu- Manchu (Warner Oland), Philo Vance (William Powell), and Sherlock Holmes (Clive Brook). This is a 79m reissue, not the 102m original, and there are some blips from time to time.

King of Burlesque (1935) DVD available
Warner Baxter stars as a burlesque producer turned Broadway showman whose career is wrecked by marrying an upper class socialite (Mona Barrie) and has to rely on old friends Alice Faye and Jack Oakie to produce a show to get back on top. Also starring Arline Judge. Excellent quality.

College Humor (1933) DVD available
Fun collegiate musical comedy stars Bing Crosby as a singing professor (!), Jack Oakie and Richard Arlen are football stars dealing with the pressures of sports and school. Also starring Mary Carlisle with George Burns and Gracie Allen having a couple of bits. Very good quality.

The Big Broadcast of 1936 (1935) DVD available
Bing has only a guest spot in this follow up. Radio station manager Jack Oakie teams with Burns and Allen to win a big contest with their wild TV like device. Lot of great fun here. Quality on this one is a bit mediocre however.
